Welcome to the mineral gallery

This site contains a comprehensive index of mineral properties using mineral examples taken from my own collection. A lot of the minerals and variants are budget examples that may be encountered in the field or purchased from mineral dealers. Each mineral type is classified using a simplified identification method. Further information about mineral formation, mineral uses and mineral features is also provided.

To find a mineral, click on 'mineral A to Z' and select a letter or use the search facility. If you have a mineral that you are not able to identify, try the Mineral Identification Tool. Select a few mineral properties and some suggested mineral types may result. A number of items are still under construction and will be added shortly.

Brief History

The original mineral data set was prepared in the mid to late nineties for a CD-ROM which unfortunately was never completed due to competition from other collections with much larger budgets. Due to the improvement of web database technologies, it has been relatively easily to convert the original dataset and present it as a website.

Web Site Construction

The site uses a MySQL database and is scripted in PHP. The website is being produced by Media Marvels in association with Apex Design. Further additions to the content and improvements to the website will be made over the next few months. If you require a similar type of website, then please visit the Media Marvels or Apex Design websites for further information and contact information.
